In the space of the next six days, the British creative industry is set to showcase its best talent with London Fashion Week, the BAFTAs and the BRIT Awards.
Tomorrow marks the arrival of London Fashion Week, putting British fashion on a global platform. The five-day event is one of the highest profile fashion events in the world and has 60 catwalk shows in the official schedule, 45 shows off schedule, as well as a number of presentations, showrooms and parties by some of the best names in the industry.
In addition to this, an initiative by the British Fashion Council aims to recognise the importance of fashion film in the industry whilst also developing the relationship between fashion designers and filmmakers, offering a creative platform to showcase their talent. The ‘Fashion Film’ initiative, sponsored by River Island, inevitably enhances London’s reputation for innovation and creativity at Fashion Week.
In terms of supporting talent, Fashion Film gives designers the opportunity to apply for financial support towards creating a film that showcases their up and coming collection. Executive Producer and Fashion Film panel member, Stephen Whelan, offers tips on preparing your treatment, “BFC Fashion Film is about promoting new ways of thinking about this exciting emerging genre. Your film should embody the essence of the collection to heighten its emotional resonance.”
Having launched in 2012, Fashion Film continues tomorrow with ‘A Night of Fashion Film’ at 8pm. The showcase will feature, among others, screenings of ‘Vogue’ – a film by Craig McDean for British Vogue, ‘Yves Saint Laurent’ – an exclusive preview of the new feature film Biopic and ‘Catching the Moment: Life Through The Lens of Terry Jones’ – an exclusive preview of the documentary about i-D founder, Terry Jones.
There’s definitely a lot to look forward to. See you all down there!
